Tomb Raider game series is a series of action-adventure video games created back in 1996 that continue to this day. Franchise focuses on fictional British archaeologist Lara Croft, who travels around the world searching for lost artifacts and infiltrating dangerous tombs and ruins. A very popular series of games has also released a Tomb Raider games for PS4. It’s actually a Tomb Raider trilogy for Play Station 4.
You didn’t played all the Tomb Raider games of the newer generation that came out for the PS4? Wondering which Tomb Raider for PS4 is the best? In fact, all Tomb Raider PS4 games are a “must play”, especially for fans of the series and I highly recommend that you play all the parts. Still, here is a list of the Best Tomb Raider PS4 game from worst to best part:
3. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition PS4 (2014)
A game called Tomb Raider is a reboot of the lovely and sexy Lara Croft who takes us back to her young and unexperienced days when she was just one young and smart girl in love with relics and artifacts. The game was released in 2013 for PC, Play Station 3 and Xbox 360. Later, in 2014 a remastered version Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition released for Play Station 4 and Xbox One containing all features and DLC.
The story of twenty-one-year-old Lara begins on the ship of her mentor Condrad Roth, where she travels with the rest of the crew to the mysterious Japanese island of Yamatai in search of relics. The ship is plunged into a strong storm that sinks it, all end up stranded on the island, and Lara separates from the rest of the crew and ends up in an awkward situation from which she barely pulls a living head out. Soon she find out that her crew is being held by dangerous members of a mysterious cult that inhabits the island, which is why her mission is transformed from a research to a rescue.
Gameplay is what the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition shines in and is proud of. The game mechanics are polished to the maximum. The controls are responsive and precise. This is especially evident in Lara’s impressive abilities of jumping and climbing the unpredictable and wild locations of Yamatai Island, but also in fighting enemies. Although the graphics was great in 2014, it’s a bit outdated now. The story of the game is solid, but not good enough to take up more space on this list. The characters in the game are not overly interesting, the relationship between Lara and the individual characters is a bit strange.
Due to all the above, the game ranks third on this list. However, although it may not be the best Tomb Raider game, it is definitely a top notch game and I definitely recommend playing this game.
2. Shadow of the Tomb Raider PS4 (2018)
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the latest game of the Tomb Raider series officially released in 2018. The game has been released for PC, Play Station 4 and Xbox One. This is also the final chapter of the Tomb Raider trilogy for PS4.
The story of the game takes place a few months after the events from Rise of the Tomb Raider. Lara Croft and her faithful companion Jonah go on another deadly adventure to the legendary city of Paititi, where they are directed by the notes and instructions of her father, Lord Croft. They go on a mission to prevent the Maya apocalypse which she started.
Lara will ruin her status as a legendary heroine by the need to take revenge on a militaristic organization called Trinity, responsible for her father’s death. Lara is clearly not the type of woman who treats her revenge plan as a dish served cold, her obsession with the idea will cloud her mind and she will fall in the eyes of many players due to her reckless actions.
The game has picked up a lot of positive reviews, with particular praise going to the game’s emphasis on challenge tombs and puzzles. However, there is still work to be done on the gameplay, as there is no new things compared to the older games of this series and this is a game relatively newer generation came out in 2018. This game will not overly impress you with its story, but it will amaze you with its graphic beauty and interesting choice of gameplay mechanics. The game ranks second on this list and is definitely a game you have to play even if you are not a fan of the Tomb Raider series.
1. Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 (2016)
Rise of the Tomb Raider is the second installment to the Tomb Raider series for Play Station 4. The game was released in 2015 for Xbox One and later in 2016 for PC and Play Station 4. It is the sequel to the 2013 video game, Tomb Raider, and the eleventh entry in the Tomb Raider series.
The story of this game sends us on new adventures with Lara Croft who goes to Siberia in search of the lost city of Kitezh and Divine Source which gives the owner immortality. Of course, the paramilitary organization Trinity also wants a powerful artifact. Lara Croft will face various traps and problems to reach the goal. Also, as in other Tomb Raider games in the series for Play Station 4, you can loot tombs to unlock new rewards, complete side missions, and look for resources that can be used to craft useful materials and upgrade weapons.
The game has a solid story, but the way this story is acted out and presented is superb. The game is full of beautiful landscapes and visual details that you can enjoy, graphically the game looks beautiful. Snowy details and the environment is something that gives a special beauty to the game. The gameplay of the game is done at the highest level and these are all reasons why this game is at the top of this list.
Is this game fun?
There is no doubt about it at all. Fans of the action adventure genre will enjoy beautiful visuals and finely directed action. Durability is also satisfactory, Lara will keep you a nice number of hours by the screen, especially if you want to reveal all her secrets and collect every little hidden item. I highly recommend this game along with other Tomb Raider games on Play Station 4 as the entire game trilogy for PS4 is great.
Just for the record, this is my personal opinion, based on personal experiences of playing the Tomb Raider game series on PS4. If this post was useful and if you want more posts like this, please support me and like my Facebook page.
